Hard to believe but there was a time when you could actually drive your car through here. In fact further up you'll find an old long-abandoned bridge with its steel supports still in place. This road may have been taken out of service over 90 years ago(an old picture of the bridge from 1921 had a misspelled "obsolete" written on it), but many of these abandoned roads through here were in use until the 50's and 60's, and trash from only forty years ago can be found along its stretch.

Another interesting tidbit is that much of this forest has only been here for 50-60 years. Yet in many parts its actually difficult to tell humans were ever here. And those trees on either side of the path? They were once waist high shrubs used as animal barriers.
