you know, I used to consider this one of the worst fighting games ever made. However, I judged this purely on the Sega 32x game, which I still believe is one of the worst fighting games ever made. I decided to go back to this game several times, even compared the Super NES and Genesis version to each other. I have to say... The Super NES version is actually decent.
Though the franchise was owned by game Tech, the Super NES version was created by Eurocom. The Genesis version feels like it's nothing more than a port of the PC versions, and it comes saddled with clunky gameplay. I'm a Super NES version, they completely redid most of the graphics, and the Sprites are nice and sizey, which actually benefited the game player because it made attacks easier to land. The gameplay is still a little bit clunky, but there is enough polish to the game that you could still enjoy it without having the stretch it too far.
The best part of the Super NES version is that it does not require you to learn moves before using them. If you know the input cords, you can use moves at any time. On other versions, you absolutely have to learn the moves first. I still have to be honest, I used to hate this game, get looking back at the Super NES version, it may not have been the street fighter or Mortal Kombat, but it had its own identity and enough polish to it that if you're a fighting game fan, you could still enjoy it. Yes it's still has problems, but overall, the company that ported the Super NES version did a respectable job on this game.
