A few days ago a watcher asked me, if I would acompany him to EF, suited up as Abraxas. While I felt flattered on the one hand I was also very shy to take his offer on the other hand. All in all I think we "Fury Horses" are somewhere in the twilight zone between furry fandom and BDSM fetish world. I like this little corner and enjoy being guest in both worlds. But I am also very well aware that with my suit I do not fully fit in either of both worlds. There are fetish/BDSM parties I'd never attend to in full pony tack, simply because I know it would disturb the dream and fantasy other visitors are trying to pull into reality. And it is just the same with furry conventions: I am very well aware that I do not fit entirely in what people would usually expect from a fur suit.
I tried to express my concern to said watcher and make him understand that I believe that the EF organizers might not be very happy to see me fully dressed as Abraxas, which I understand all too well. EF is convention that is also a showcase to the non-furry public and of course you really don't want to have the Fury-Horses on the front page of the tabloids when you read an article about the EF.
And indeed; EF's policy includes this chapter:
The limit for "adult themed" materials is the equivalent of what you can see on the magazine covers at an average German newsstand. Drawing the line for "fetish gear" is a little bit more tricky. To avoid unexpected differences with our Security Staff, please ask us in advance if you're unsure about the adequacy of an item.
Sadly enough the watcher opened a ticket at EF to ask them organizers if I could come anyway in suit. And that's when I would have loved to hit the desk with my head: Please... don't ever do that. I don't need a spokesman. I am very well capable of speaking for myself. And if I have a concern and feel uncomfortable to join a convention or party in my outfit then it is most likely that I feel really out of place. Please take that serious. I deeply respect the work of organizers of events such as the EF and I have no intentions to trouble them with my outfit, especially when I am very well aware that it does not fit in.
That having said... I might come to EF. Not entirely sure yet. But if I do... it will be as the real me. Not as Abraxas. So... if you see this con badge, give me a hello :) I don't bite ... hard.

I'm not into ponyplay or horses. Hell~. I'm not even into guys.
But i must say that suit is pretty damn awesome (Hence my +watch! ;) ) and i'd love to see it in person one day.
And as you said quite well. It is a difficult line to draw when it comes to fetishes and the furry fandom.. And i dont think that something (as wonderfull as this in my OWN opinion) like this. Would be good PR for furries or Eurofurence as the outside would instantly take it in the wrongest possible way. -_-;
