art is art cause you make it. not for any other reason. gifts are given cause you feel like the other would enjoy it. selfishness should not enter into it at all. some people just give gifts and never worry about being noticed... like me!

I feel like that croc sometimes... this avatar is about two seconds away from being considered an antique, and I've been wanting a replacement for like... a year now... but not having any money means I'm not getting anything, so I get that urge now and then to try and hint at wanting free art, but it just makes me feel like a dick anyway, so then I try and tell them that if they ARE gonna do something to not do it out of pity, or don't take that comment into consideration about it, and then I realize how stupid saying that would be, so I just don't say anything. >.>

By the way, yes, this was just me blowing off steam and getting that off my back. I'm not asking for art in anyway, I swear to god.

Yeah. On DA, some guy watched me, then right afterwards, asked if I wanted to help him with a fan comic he was doing. After I said no, he tried a couple more times to try and convince me.

I've done plenty of gift art, but I've never asked or expected any in return. I got no problem taking someone up on an offer, but I generally see it as rude to just ask someone you don't really know for free art.

I've found that if I am nice and sincere about my gift-giving I'll usually get something back without having to beg for it.

I think people instinctively know when another artist is trying to lick their butt just for art.

For me it doesn't matter what's on the picture. If it is done for me it is an honor, but not required.
