so i saw the thumbnail and read the title but didn't read the description. so immediately I thought "Oh damn! A new blanket that I could have to keep warm!!!!" <-- not fully appreciating what your blanket is actually made of.
so I go to pledge for this, what i thought was a soft blanket, only to find out that I was a derp...........
though for a new toy, i think its a neat idea :D

Interesting idea. A shame though that silicon is so expensive, and how heavy it is for postage. You might consider bringing such things to conventions to negate the postage and let people see you work "in the flesh" before purchasing. I would recommend a detachable zipper so it could be made into a 'tube' as well as drawstring cords on top and bottom that could be drawn up for a muscular closing "sphincter" effect on both ends. An electric blanket could be wrapped around it for warmth. The final effect then is to put it on top of a half full waterbed and have gurgling and heartbeat sound effects too! Good luck with the project! I would be tempted to get one myself if the costs could be streamlined. One possibility would be to do the stomach wringles as a kind of quilting with regular cloth and just paint an outside layer of silicon, or cheaper latex.
The zipper idea was to keep the blanket in a 'tubular' form while in use, but allowing it to open up flat for cleaning, airing out, and for simply using like a regular blanket. The idea of the zipper (and you can get waterproof ones), would keep the simulated fluids from dripping out on a regular mattress (though this would definately work best on a half full water bed. The heated water of the bed would also transfer to the latex. The blanket could probably be warmed up before use with a gentle setting in a dryer as well.
Latex can rot as you say when not taken care of properly, though I have masks made of latex that are over 30 years old and still in good shape. I would recommend embedding something like a nylon mesh in the silicon to give it even more strength. I have some silicon molds that occasionally split, and a mesh would prevent that kind of thing. late

How would I be able to add a zipper to very soft silicone. It would be an impossible job. :( It would end up just ripping. The silicone I am using is medical grade, so it takes some tremendous strength to rip the silicone I have. I don't think mesh would be a good idea. ^.^ That and you would feel the mesh within the silicone, since I am using the softest of soft. ^.^
A zipper could be sewn to the nylon mesh 'backing', and with no reinforcement, it can tear badly. Perhaps as thick as you say, maybe it won't. I have seen soft silicon tear. If it were imbedded/backeded by nylon it would be almost impossible to tear, and would still be just as soft and pliant.
AAAA I just came across this page, and you have no idea how badly I want, too bad I have no main way if income currently, and still living with my parents... #Soon
