"Children did not rule in those days." A lesson lost and many a parent flummoxed and child turned fiercely inward as a result.
This is honestly beautiful. I can see a few parallels between our childhoods, no matter how many years might have passed between yours and mine. And I'm starting to see my own past with that softening effect that decades can layer upon memories, making even the worst moments seem bearable now.
Thank you for this raw and intimate piece of yourself.

yes I remember some of those days as well... A very nice slice of your past, mine as some of the same and much different... But as you say they were what they were and we have lived to the now. Many look to the future because things will be better... Sadly they miss the now. There is no future, there is no past there is only the now... You can not live in the past because it is behind us, we can not live in the future because it is ahead of us and will always be so. So that leaves us with the now... in the now is the only place you can change what is to come and shape what is to be. We all are just a few breaths away from our now's to be forever ended. So make the best of each now you have been given because it could well be your last.

Akron-Cleveland area (Richfield & Lakewood), with family in Buffalo. Your mention of the street by Lake Erie rang a bell because GE has a locomotive plant there I visited years ago. Why I remembered that connection I have no clue. I'm lucky if I remember where I had lunch two days ago much less what I ate. LOL
