I sanded the crap out of the stock. Hand rubbed multiple coats of cherry stain (I had it around so I used it) allowed it to dry overnight and then hand rubbed a satin sealer coat over it all this afternoon.
Those cool stripes are actually part of the grain in the wood. Overall, it's a nice bit of wood.
I reblued all the bits the previous owner had buffed off. Mainly the bolt and the barrel. The bluing protects the metal and I don't like shiny guns.
So this is how it will stay. In this configuration, until I can find the replacement parts, I call it done. Not bad for a $150.00 carbine.
UPDATE! I was today reminded of a pawn shop locally who had an original Spanish case of 1000 cartridges for this little carbine. The nice folks even knocked $50.00 off the price for me.... Good start on setting aside some ammo for this gun. Now I decided to go ahead and purchase a companion pistol from Star Arms in the same caliber. Really nice ones run less than $250.00.

I'd be willing to leave it in that condition myself.
I'd prefer iron sights, but a scope is acceptable if they are gone already.
On your knives-
I ran out of silver solder and need to get more before I can finish.
(I had a few inches left and it got lost somewhere in the bench clutter last weekend.)
Be a week or two for me to get the cash to buy another roll, as its close to $30 a pound now.....And only comes in one pound rolls locally.
