Nikolas had a special revolver handed down from his father to him that he carried on most trips, including one to a skii lodge with friends. He left it loaded as he wanted to go to a shooting range not too far but a friend happened to find the gun and then flailed it around like a toy, shooting Nikolas by accident twice; first shot lower abdomen, second shot dead in the heart.
Instead of taking the blame they hid his body in the snowy woods and a few weeks later he happened to wake up.

So that's his lame story.
