im going to take a wild guess and say that say each of the four card types will translate into one opf the four elements?

Heart = Fire, play on the term Burning Passion?

Diamonds = Ice, since ice and diamonds can both be referred too as crystals depending on how they form.

Spade = Wind, due to the fan-like shape of the item.

Club = Earth, due to the fact that stone clubs are a common weapon type in various forms of story telling.
