NUTS? Before Lemonhope defeated Fat Lemongrab, Castle Lemongrab had turned into frickin' NORTH KOREA!
"Nuts" is putting it mildly... but we'll see what happens once Franken-Lemongrab heals up... since Lemonhope didn't want to stick around 'til 1000 years later when he finally got genuinely homesick.

Yeah, Lemongrab is basically an autistic manchild given the reins of a city-state... and immediately runs it into the ground 'cause the poor dope can't think of anyone but himself.
A trait that all Lemons seem to share... Lemonhope wasn't interested in anything but his own freedom, and only came back to Castle Lemongrab to make the nightmares stop.

I still don't understand Lemonhope. I think he's like a less evil Lemongrab as a starter, but so much in that episode is so dark. I really hope (heh) that they do an actual wrap up to the Lemongrabs, I hated him at first but now the Lemons are really fascinating.
Sort of amazing that a Tween cartoon could deal with such mature subject matter, when something like Panty and Stocking is rated mature and has the mental complexity of a bugs bunny cartoon. Not me hating Panty and Stocking, just an interesting dichodomy.

Indeed... Adventure Time balances the goofy with the emotionally complex, and that's what makes it pretty awesome.
As for Lemonhope, he's not evil... selfish, but not evil by a long shot. After all... when he says "See you in a thousand years," he indeed makes good on his promise... empires have risen and fallen, but eventually the prodigal son returns home. And he DID save his fellow Lemons from a power-mad Fat Lemongrab.
Seriously. He turned Castle Lemongrab into North Korea. I can't stress that enough.

I guess "evil" is the wrong term for the Lemons. They're all just really REALLY messed up. And Lemonhope coming back after a thousand years wasn't a promise, just what he felt like doing eventually. It could be seen as him finally wanting to see them again, but not as a promise.
I think Lemonhope was built up as the finale to the Lemons as a super invested misdirect. Like they were saying, "Here's the guy who's going to be the chosen savior of his people-NOT!" I mean he has hope in his name for Glob's sake.

Hanlon's Razor ("Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity") is definitely in effect with Lemongrab, his clone, and their children- Lemongrab isn't so much evil as he is grotesquely and painfully stupid, completely unaware and even uncaring of the consequences of his actions. He jumps off the slippery slope, however, in "Too Old" when he goes to increasingly insane lengths to please Princess Bubblegum, culminating in the torture and later DEVOURING of Lemongrab 2 and several of his offspring.
Yeah, basically Lemongrab got so twisted that someone HAD to push the reset-button by blowing him to bits and then putting him back together with pieces of his more compassionate clone-brother mixed in.
And yeah... they really threw us a curve-ball by setting up Lemonhope as the hero and champion of the Lemongrab Earldom, only to have him be a selfish kid only concerned with his own freedom, and comes back to save his people only to absolve himself of his own guilt by paying back the kindness his brothers and sisters showed him in helping him escape Castle Lemongrab in the first place.
