That is correct. The idea was to give his wings armor, but since he had an extra set of hands on his wings, he might as well have something to fill them.

Well, I saw that coming.....the overused theme of "royalty helps the commoners in physical labor".....that never gets old and always boosts morale!

It does feel a little cliche, but oddly I can't think up too many examples of it used. I'm familiar with royalty disquising themselves to fit in with commoners, but not too many actually staying in character. Maybe it's an expected characteristic?

If your looking for examples then I shall point you towards the Fire Emblem series. Most of the time, the good guys consist of royalty helping their loyal subjects on the battlefield, instead of cowering behind them and not helping.
