Chapter One of Kojo the Coydog's history/ back story. Enjoy! Please favorite and/ or tell your friends!!! :)
EDIT: I suppose I should warn that this story will eventually take on some very mature themes, which might disturb some readers. There will be violence (it is a post-apocalyptic free-for-all world after all), and there will be some sex and alcohol use. One scene in particular in this story may disturb and upset some readers but I am planning to mark it as mature as a warning. So if you do not or cannot read mature works, please be warned. Thank you.
A brisk, sand laden wind whips into a frenzy as it makes its way across a barren wasteland. With nothing in its path to slow it down it gains momentum and turns into a small tornado which dissipates after a time. So different from the surrounding arid landscape, a moist black nose suddenly pokes up from behind a sand dune. The nose is followed by long whiskers that connect to a small tan muzzle. Suddenly, the curious owner of this snout comes into view. It's an anthropomorphic coydog, or coyote dog. She's slender, with a lean frame that suggests a life of intense physical exertion. Her coloring is a pale tan, with white down her chest and midsection, which is bare since the only clothing she wears is a cut off white tank top, jean shorts, a cowboy hat, leather biker gloves with metal spikes on the knuckles, and a gun holster that holds a loaded pistol. The girl's name is Kojo. She can't be more than twenty and some odd years old. A hardened look is set upon her face, her green eyes dull from years of ruthless experiences in this cruel, cruel world. She is alone, and from the looks of the area around her, has been for a long while. Her clothes are dirty and tattered, which seems to suggest that she has been roaming in this seemingly endless desert expanse for some time. The gun at her side is Kojo's only constant companion. It is her savior, her best friend, the only one she can count on besides herself.
Kojo, like all anthropomorphic creatures, walks on her toes, her black paw pads protecting her feet from the heat that emanates from the sand beneath her. Her black claws dig in giving her traction. The same claws exist on her hand paws which she reaches up now to adjust her hat against the glaring sunlight. Something in the corner of Kojo's eye catches her attention. In one fluid motion she leaps a few steps away from the movement and pulls her pistol from its holster. Her back arches as she aims and fires toward the distraction. She quickly realizes that it is nothing but a tumbleweed. She sighs and straightens up as she puts her gun back in its home at her side.
Kojo shields her eyes with a paw and looks up towards the sun as a thought suddenly crosses her mind.
“God save us every one. Will we burn inside the fires of a thousand suns?”
She looks back down and glances around her at the desert, never ending, arid and lonely. A few structures dot the landscape, but it is clear even from this distance that they no longer contain any life.
Kojo speaks aloud then, “God save us every one.”
