A cleaned up sketch from the previous sketch. The last one will be sent to the scrap folder.
Magic users like Noa wear specially made robes, robes that can channel energy without bursting into flames. These robes can harness conductible energy and that energy is guided by two, shoulder mounted conductors. The conductors, working with the mechanic similar to arc welders and the Ghostbuster's proton pack, absorb energy from a solid fuel source like wood, coal, or just about anything that can easily burn. This energy is transferred into the body and is now controlled by the brain. Using a focused mind, a magic user can control the output and even the shape of the formed energy. The energy is then discharged from the user’s hands. The energy discharges can turn into missiles, battery charging effects, or image manipulation. Image manipulation is used to create images that can be shaped by the user’s mind.
Now for the drawbacks...
If energy is consumed, the energy will stay in the body indefinitely until it is used and it can build up... which can lead to swelling. The energy is heated by the user's body temperature which makes it more active like gas inside of a balloon being affected by outside temperatures. However, the energy is still controlled by the user's mind. But, the user must stay focused and if he/she has to stay focus, it means he/she has to stay awake.
There are different scenarios as to what would happen depending on the amount of energy is taken in. If the user loses control, whether it be losing control from distraction or falling asleep, the energy will spread across the user's body. Depending on the size of the user and the amount he/she takes in, uncontrolled energy would cause the user to swell up. The energy, when not controlled, will slowly repel itself away from the brain and go towards the lower body. Should the user lose control, the user can re-control the energy though it would take time to 'draw' it back towards the upper body. In Noa’s case, she wears a corset not because it’s fashionable or because she’s conscious about her weight, it’s to keep the energy from flowing clear to the end of her tail.
Of course, there's always a limit to how much a user can take in. The amount of energy a user can store is determined on the tensile strength of the user's flesh. So yes, a magic user can in fact explode.
Roll for Constitution!
Now for the worst, worst, worst case scenario! A magic user should never, and I mean NEVER, remove his or her conductors if they still have energy stored in them! If the conductors are removed, the user's body will absorb the energy and it will be very painful. Painful as in, an invisible, body covering army of ants digging into your body at the exact same time, kind of painful.
Roll for Constitution!
If the user survives the absorption, then it would be like taking a huge shot of steroids, making the user physically stronger. Buuuuuuuuuuuut... Just HGH, multiple energy adsorptions can result in roid gut... and the effects are permanent...
Many of you are now thinking that if a magic user like Noa Emani can swell up, which should mean that magic induced inflation is canon in the Zwiland story project. Yes… but for different reasons. Magic induced inflation has a culturally sordid reputation, the kind that people prefer it to be locked away in bars and whorehouses. To professional magic users, if a user loses control and gets inflated, that user is seen as someone who is a complete noob. The ‘uses Cobblestone to build everything in Minecraft’ kind of noob. If a magic user, like a female, uses her swelling to make her breast bigger would have a much more negative reputation than a woman who has breast implants. In fact, it’s considered on a cultural level as a sure-fire way for finding out that the inflated woman is clearly a dude. This is because the vast majority of magic users in the Zwiland region in Noa’s time are male.

Thank you!
I tend to get put off by the common form of magic in many stories, mostly because it tend to border on Dues Ex Machina. The requirement of mana can make things more practical when it comes to magic. However, the practicality can radically vary from being a wizard's magic gasoline to "Fuck you, I don't have to explain shit!"
Now, if you look into the Scrap folder for the previous, "dirty" sketch, you'll notice that I've managed to blow Zucca's mind by managing to make inflation make sense!
