This is a commission of Charlie by 
pajamapup of him as a gym leader with three of his star Pokemon in a rather hot gym.
Charlie wasn't contempt with just having a single element represent his gym, especially since his gym also doubles as a foundry. Because of that, he dedicated his gym to both fire and steel types. As a foundry, he reasoned that fire types temper steel-types just like fire tempers iron into steel and to him, this also represented the trainer's dedication to train a Pokemon to forge both the Pokemon and his trainer.
Unlike some of his peers in the Kalos region, he believes that a true challenge lies in not using Mega Evolutions as he figured that it cheapens victory and didn't truly show how well the Pokemon was tempered. He didn't question its power, but he believed that it should only be needed in an emergency (when opportunistic and profiteering groups like Team Rocket were on the loose); indeed he did earn his own Mega Gauntlet for his right forearm and his Blaziken and Aggron had their mega stones. However, his ace is Durandal, his Aegislash. To him this represents the apex of the forging of Pokemon and trainer as a true sword is the apex of a blacksmith's tempering and forging of such an exquisite blade.
However, Charlie had a unique problem - due to events in his youth and his dedication to the forge, he had no time to "train" himself and so he still needed protection (though he'd never admit that to his gym's trainers or challengers...let alone admitting he liked wearing his protection). Most of his needs are tended to by his Delphox; while not an active member of his gym party, she could step in when needed by Charlie. Such is the life of a gym leader - his dedication to his forge and gym leaves little time for a social life.
