Arnold Armadillo is the reluctant sidekick of Bubsy Bobcat from the unaired Bubsy cartoon. He is depicted as a nervous lancer whose legitimately afraid for his life, as apparently semis are killing his family left and right (according to the news). He has the misfortune of being the chew toy of the show. What made the pilot nearly unbearable was the decision to use him as the focus for most of the slapstick comedy. This is how slapstick works. Slapstick is supposed to be karmic justice done to a character who warrants some sort of punishment either for being a jerk or for doing something remotely heinous and is receiving payback. It is a set up joke and the punchline fits perfectly. Here's the problem. Arnold never did anything to condone the punishment he receives throughout the episode. He's needlessly tortured by Bubsy and his awful little niece and nephew since the beginning, falls through a roof, gets stomped on and electrocuted and nothing he did warranted any of it. He inevitably gets fed up with Bubsy's bullshit and calls him out on it. He supposedly hates Bubsy Bobcat and considers him worse than getting run over by a semi truck! Damn, someone actually relatable, and he gets all the punishment. Fuck this show. I feel so sorry for Arnold for getting wrapped up in this crappy escapade. He deserved so much better.
I guess the character belongs to Accolade and Calico Creations. I don't know if they even have copyright over him anymore do to their disbandment in the 90s.

I feel the same thing too, the pilot was an utter load of garbage through and through. Arnold was really the only thing i remotely liked in the whole thing. Oh i shudder to think of what torture he would have gone through had this been picked up. Thankfully the pilot flopped and this is the only reminder of what could have happened.
Quite a belated post but you are right, this series has practically been relegated to the dustbins of video game history where it belongs. Bubsy is but one of the many Mario and Sonic wannabe imitators of the '90s that never caught on.
It's a good thing that the Bubsy cartoon never made it past the pilot, as it was a clear indicator of just how horrible it would have been as a series.

Arnold's the only character I loved about the failed pilot. Liked his voice, thought he was a cute character, and someone who needed a hug too.
The sad thing, in spite of Bubsy's history, there are spots of good in all the bad. The first two games in his series are considered alright, even good. The series than stumbled hard, Fractured Furry Tales got panned and it was released on a failed console (Atari Jaguar), and his horrendous transition to 3D in the PS1 game. And his revival is more of a meme than anything, he got some funny memes and jokes from and as someone who played The Whoolies Strike Back, the game isn't bad, it's just extremely short and forgettable. I completed the game in around two hours. And Paws on Fire was meh with it being called bland and repetitive.
I dunno if there's any salvaging Bubsy, but he's not all out terrible. I think his character would need a complete overhaul and give him a voice that suits the character, but doesn't come off as annoying or cringe inducing. Make Arnold an actual friend to Bubsy instead of a chew toy, like develop what their relationships is. Like did Bubsy happen to save Arnold and the two became the best of chums since then, with the armadillo swearing to be the bobcat's sidekick and companion.
Just some thoughts of mine, but really like this. Makes me want to give Arnold a big hug.
