I worked on this during my last few lunch breaks. One of the other gladiator/slaves in Deren's story. This guy has grown on me so he may get a bigger part in the story... though he may not appear until part 3.

This character's real name is Shian Mai. His masters in the Faceless organization branded him with the name "Red" after he entered their service. This is a nickname that he is not at all fond of as he sees it as a racial slur.

Red is a Zhaocian, a race of tree-dwelling sentients from the arboreal planet, Assari. Before he was captured, he was a shaolin-like monk on his homeworld. The Faceless saw having a Zhaocian monk in the pits would be worth his weight in gold so through a long, grueling process aided by devices that affect brainwaves, the faceless were able to break his mind enough to get him to fight in the arenas. However, his fighting skills are but a shadow of what they once were since he now lacks the focus and inner harmony that once gave his fighting style an edge. Don't be fooled though, Red is still a formidable opponent in the arena who even gives Deren a run for his money.

Red is a master of hand to hand combat, but also makes use of spears and exotic weapons not commonly found among the arena fighters.

In the story, he is one of Deren's best friends and has a relationship with the only female gladiator in the ludus.
