I have no idea how I ended up here, BUT.
Thylacines (and plenty of other marsupials) have rear-facing pouches so that they don't fill them with sand, earth and mud while digging.
Kangaroos don't dig, so there's no need to have a reverse pouch. In fact, with their semi-upright stance, it makes more sense for them to be that way around.
Basically, if it's a digging marsupial, the pouch entrance/exit faces the rear.
