Just as a fun showcase of an eyecandied system:
My trusty KDE desktop on my 2006 Core2Duo 3GHz ( originally Core2Duo 2.13GHz but updated 2009 to 3GHz when a friends gaming rig died and he went AMD ).
Instead of Windows "one screen - one desktop" metaphor I'm using 6 virtual desktops between which I can flip, parking program-groups on their individual desktop.
I.e. Pidgin and Skype share one screen, Thunderbird ( here : Icedove ) parks on it's own screen, like Firefox ( here, Iceweasel ) is doing on my system.
The remaining desktops I keep for games, writing and CAD/CAM work.
I have 4GB of Ram, and despite the system still running in 32Bit mode I can use that fully, unlike Windows XP, which exits somewhere at 3.5GB. I just, like Windows, can give each individual program only 2GB of RAM to work with, which is why my work machine is really little more nowadays than an overpowered mediaplayer plus communications.
And a sophisticated Latex / LibreOffice typewriter.
The background picture is
Sheppymomma 's lovely "Self Portrait":

Sheppymomma had an account "Bunnymomma" before the sheppy one, and I do think she still is active on twitter, too.
I don't use twitter and the like, so, maybe they gave their reasons at the time on the corresponding platforms, but I did not notice it.
The most important thing is that, whatever they do, they are happy.
And in my mental world model, being seriously happy with somebody would be a reason to close down those channels I maintain in the hope to find somebody.
