Species Info
Veilinks started out as ordinary squid or octopus until the Merfolk in the seas surrounding Saverns interviened. Placing magical stones on them, the squid and actopus were transformed into their humanoid forms by force. If these stones were to be removed, the Veilink would loose all mental capabilities and revert back to primal actions and instincts while remaining in their humanoid forms. Creating their magical servents left the Merfolk with a endless supply of possible servents. If more were needed, fishermen would bring more to be transformed. If their numbers grew too large, the stones were removed and the Veilink is released or kept till needed. Veilinks cannot sexually reproduce.
Veilinks gained extrodinary magical abilites due in part to their stones. While most are still used for general labor and as servents, a choosen few are kept as advisors, mages and soldiers. Veilinks cannot speak rather than grunts, moans and screams. They communicate through telepathy with one another and their Merfolk masters. Though they must be spoken to by others than their own kind. They cannot recieve telepathic messages from them. This power also gives them limited ability to read minds. Making them powerful allies in the field of battle. They are masters at Illusionary and Alteration magics. Making enemies see more soliders than there really are or turning the water around enemies to ice. These powers also keep the Merfolk wary. Their numbers are closely watched and maintained as not to let them grow too numerous. Fearing the servents may rise up against them if they grow too bold.
