I am making a new mask! This will be painted resin like my previous mask, but I am going in a different direction aesthetically this time. I'm going more feral, but still friendly. The eyes will be painted acrylic cabochons. I think these are 2" ones? They look a little manic right now, but the look softens with eyelids. I plan on hinging the jaw, filling in the gap with a spandex cheeky web thingy. The details will be fairly simple. The idea is to make a resin blank that can be easily modified with epoxy clay, resin bits or whatever to make a whole 'nother character.
After this is finished, I am sculpting a different dragon! I'm making a pair of costumes; one for me and one for my main man moresmallerbear. Bear's head is much larger than mine, so it would be difficult to fit one blank to both of us. Plus, it will be fun to sculpt one soft, cute dragon face and one rough 'n tough dragon face. (Though I think he'd rather be the soft and cute dragon! :P Knowing how I do things, his will still going to be pretty cute.)
The clay is WED clay, a specialty water-based clay. I really enjoy working with this stuff! In the past I have sculpted in oil clay, but it's so hard on my fingers. Plus it's difficult to block out large shapes in any reasonable amount of time. I think from now on I will be sculpting masks in WED clay because of how fast it moves. My opinion may change when I get to the detailing phase, though.
Constructive criticism or tips welcome and encouraged! Note that this is still in the really early stages.
