This was an aircraft originally intended for counter-insurgency of COIN work not fighting alien invaders. I don't know what its name is or who builds it but the Brazilian Air Force was using them to harass birdie recon units in the grasslands of that country. It seems to be an aircraft that follows in the footsteps of Argentian Pucara.
It is a relatively light weight turboprop pusher design that possess decent speed, range, armor and warload with excellent maneuverability. It is an aircraft that is either of a much later design or has benefitted from recent technology upgrades since it has capabilities that the Pucara never had. things like FLIR turret, laser designator and aerial refueling capability and a glass cockpit.

Well the aircraft aspect is because the Birdies, the alien invaders in A&K-1, have still not gained a strong base of operation on earth and the earth governments are doing everything in their power to keep that way. It is definitely a case of hit the enemy at the beaches and don't let them get ashore. In this case though the beach is sixty miles above the earth!
Now the Birdies having gotten some bases established on earth and we are starting to see some real efforts to knock out those strongholds. In particular there is a big offensive starting on the Russian/ Mongolian border that is involving not only Russian and Chinese forces, but for the first time since the WWII Western European Forces are providing air support to Russian Forces. This is significant since this a world where the USSR goes away in late 1950's but the Cold War still technically still going on. There is one Russian tank crew that is starting to appear in my dreams along with a West German Anti-Armor heliocopter crew that has been sent east to assist the Russians. I hope to post some AFV images soon.

OOoooh, another vehicle that looks like it would fit in the Battletech universe. The lines of the fuselage work so well, and seeing the details like the refueling probe, it all just works.
With those thick, long-travel gear stalks, it looks like it could easily do duty as a carrier based craft. Especially with the wide wingspan, seems like it would have a pretty low stall speed....when it's empty at least.

I looooove COIN aircraft like a child I never had by a woman I only dreamed of! There's just something infinitely sexy about them. The Bronco was/is always one of my most favourite aircraft designs of all time, and the Pucara comes a close second as well. This is a worthy successor/contender to both! I love it. The weapon loadout fits nicely too! I imagine it can also carry bombs as required too? Great design, love it!
The butterfly tail is one those concepts that has been apparently very tempting for aeronautical engineers but has not alway worked out as well as hoped. It is my understanding that combining of the elevators and the tail into one unit does have several advantages if for nothing else it simplifies the overall design by combining two elements into one. The downside is a loss of stability and if it gets hit in combat you can lose both the elevators and the tail/ rudder! The only aircraft that I'm aware of that has made the Butterfly tail work on a large scale production is the Beechcraft Bonanza and it was considered very futuristic in the 1950's when it came out. the other one that comes to mind is the French primary jet trainer Fouga Magisters which also came into exstence during the 1950's. Supermarine also experimented with the idea when they were in the early stages of development for the Scimitar in 1950's also.
The Fouga indeed is THE reference speaking about Messerschmitt's idea of a V-tail (that has been planned for many german projects at the end of the war, including the Heinkel 162 Salamander), and the Bonanza is not to be forgotten, but you also forgot that the V-tail as a serial component is more spreaded around the gliders... and the F-117 and the Predator drone !!
That is so cool! I know that the Air Force has been kicking around some ideas for a counter-insurgency aircraft for a while, with one design being little more than a T-6 Texan II armed with similar weaponry to what you have here. However, this is at least a sleeker-looking design.
But fighting alien invaders? Sounds like there's an interesting story involved :)
