Ok my friends,
I need some moral boost, I've been having a really hard times overcoming my crappy art, hence my lack of submissions, most of my recent works are in this limbo-like state, half done and floating around accumulating dust in my HDs, literally, hundreds of them...
I need to break this, hopefully this will help...
Here's the same pic with background, which my messed up head find totally hideous: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lylfyqja1.....ed_skipper.jpg

I'm loving this. :3 I love the texture on that chair, and I think the figure itself is super adorable. I think I can see where you're getting hung up on it though. The lighting feels a little strong for the scene, and I think that's whats throwing you off.
If you need some ideas and inspiration for lighting, though, check out
acidgrunt's work. He's extremely good with light and shadow, and you may find something that gives you ideas.

Artists always suffer from an inferiority complex. I'm certainly no exception to this rule.
For what it's worth, I like your art a lot. In fact, I didn't feel like I was worthy of trading with you a few years ago. I'm glad I was able to power through those feelings of doubt and finish my half of the trade, because if I hadn't, I never would have gotten that great picture from you.
That's what you'll have to do... just power on through and keep drawing. I could tell you 'till I'm blue in the face how much I like your artwork, but I've found with other artists that it just doesn't help. It's all on you to work through your self-doubt and emerge victorious. I know you can do this, and I wish you luck finding your confidence.

Hey, your description reminded me of this quote from Ira Glass. I thought you might get something out of it: “Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”
To be frank, I love your art. You throw in some really inventive stuff and I think that's really valuable, especially for a community that's running a little short on creativity. Please keep fighting your way through!
