EDIT: And in case you thought I was making it up: http://www.project-future.org/stuff.....ergard_009.png
This is an April Fool piece that
merlin-the-bruce did for her comic, using a script I contributed, and characters from our forthcoming comic, 'The Epsilon Project'. (It was originally written for her own character so this came as a bit of a surprise).
It manages to parody several things, from the Jack Chick comic about how D&D is a gateway drug to SATAN and teaches you to cast actual spells, to D&D itself, and in particular a roguelike game called 'Rearguard' by David Eastman, which as a kid I hacked into 'Beergarden' and changed all the monsters into things like worms, frogs, and the dreaded fire-snail. Scrolls became different kinds of beer, and potions various other alcoholic beverages. And yes, the random number generator was shot so it really does deal 680 damage points in a single strike. (I have completed it recently, despite the crippling odds)
For those who don't follow Merlin's comic ( http://dhscomix.com ), the Elemental Gods had a spat with their fellow God, Jake, latterly known as the Lord of Lies. Folks in Merlin's world who worship him - by performing pranks - get the power to perform illusions, and and known as Tricksters. In most countries, the worship of Jake is outlawed and Tricksters are liable to be executed if they are discovered.
See the side-story 'Free Turn': http://www.dhscomix.com/index2.php?p=farchives
...or 'Daisy': http://www.dhscomix.com/index2.php?p=darchives
...for a good introduction to Merlin's world and the perils of worshipping Jake.

The pints? Originally they were brands of beer common in the UK. For this, I changed them to be more generic things along the lines of 'Old Spotted Hen' , the sort of weird garbage names that ales usually have. IIRC 'Brainsquashers XXXX' was stolen from the dark comedy book 'Eat your own pet'.
