That's not bad! I need to try Painter. I am getting tired of my cartoony cel shading.

It's not the software you use, it's the technique! The medium can make things easier or harder or shift things one way or another, but in the end the real difference comes from how you lay down color and such. Try being messy!

I did something really different wqith that blue-green Mrish drawing a couple of months back. Just scanned a pencil drawing and used it as a guide instead of flood filling into inked lines. Maybe I will try that again.

I've personally never found a good use for flood fill; when I've tried to use it it locks me into a two-d mentality that is hard to shake. The key I've found is to never address the picture as a two-dimensional surface when working on three-d object, always think of it as a window through which the subject can be seen.

The only time I address the image as a surface is when doing patterns and frames and compositions.
