If I remember reading correctly, they were completely sealed up in their armored suits to prevent any sort of contamination from the planets, societies, and peoples they were used to destroy. And they were only used to completely wipe out whatever was targeted. You knew, that if you were fighting the Saurdakar, you either had to win, or be compeltely wiped out. Kinda scary really. Add that to the fact that they were chemically and cybernetically enhanced super soldiers...made 'em kinda scary. Till Paul sicked the Fremen and a bunch of sand worms on them...
Ah that was more the movie version of them. They wore uniforms that were black, styled like the old Life Guard of the Russian Tsar and carried a pair of long daggers usually. I do remember their bio-suits being mentioned and all, and they generally did practice full annihilation of their enemies. I like to imagine their outfits more like the Ottoman Janissaries but crossed with the outfits that squad of super soldiers wore in the movie Universal Soldier (I think that was the name of the movie). I did love that one weapon they use, I forget what it's called (will have to look it up) but it fires that variable speed rocket propelled spike. The one that killed Duncan Idaho.
The Slow Sword Pierces the Shield. Basically, while the other Sardies kept Duncan busy one fired the spike, which the others then manuvered Duncan into position to receive it. Normally wouldn't work, unless you were in close confines like those tunnels or on a space ship. My guess is it's a normal projectile till it actually hits the shield, which will then slow it down so it can penetrate, then once past a certain point, it acts like a sabot, firing a smaller projectile into the person within.
Yep, but that's the words of wisdom on shield fighting as using projectile weapons are pointless and las weapons cause of the whole chain reaction causing an explosion big enough to wipe out an entire continent in some cases. Which tends to ruin everyone's day, so that's why most combat in Dune is done using daggers and melee weapons. War coming 'full circle' in a way.
"In shield fighting, one moves fast on defense, slow on attack ... Attack has the sole purpose of tricking the opponent into a misstep, setting him up for the attack sinister. The shield turns the fast blow, admits the slow kindjal!"
As for that damned gun they used to kill Duncan, y'know the rocket spike one, there's an actual name for it in the setting. I think it's a Spitegun or something like that. I've been trying to remember it/google/wikipedia it for well over an hour now. >.<;

Really cool and well drawn. Here's one I did tell me what you think http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13134619/
At first glance, I thought the bottom one was a carbine version, but looking closely I see the diffrences and specs, I take it it's because of the design, kinda like telling the diffrences between a Gewehr 98 and a Mauser Karabiner 98K at first glance. That and so many clone/copy weapons. No wounder your characters are mostly big, those are some big calibres, the biggest calibre I fired so far was a .308 and a .45ACP, I have fired a magnum, but couldn't remember the calibre.
I know you are listing comparisons that you are familiar with, but these were entirely not influenced by those. It was from muskets, loosely based around mind you, from the Ottoman Empire. Also yes that's why the calibers are so massive, not just that, but a standard caliber size fora muzzle loading rifle was .67 caliber. '3'
I'm not soley compairing them to the Greman rifles, I admit that they look like muskets at first glace. I was making an example as I thought the bottom one was a carbine version of the one on the top. Yet agian, designs of guns do confuse someone if he or she isn't a full expert. M16/AR-15 and AK variants really confuse me when my gun knowledge is rusty. Like telling an M4 from an Colt Model 733. Or a AK-74 from an AK104.
