Do notice it says "Ready to fight", which implies eagerness without any indication of proper experience or even actual exposure to a warfront. Iskra should correct me if I'm wrong, but I take the phrase "when I thought there might be war" as a reference to the recent (and still unfolding) events in Ukraine and Russia--whenever one country is on the verge of warring with another over cultural differences, especially when the two have a long-standing animosity toward each other, a large majority of the militia and provincial military recruits are composed of young, idealistic adults and teenagers; people who, frankly, don't really know any better, don't know the proper type of dress and kit to bring. This could actually be supported by the fact the girl in the picture is showing no trigger discipline, and is in fact holding a live firearm in a very dangerous fashion.

Well, this has allready been cleared in the comments above, But yeah, you are right on several points, as for trigger discipline, that reminded me of the Simpsons, where Lisa lost control over a M16 Assault Rifle in one episode while being on a military base visit. xD

lolno. the gas piston on a AN-94 is under the barrel, and there it is over. i'd give my chance on a Arsenal, or a Ak-74M, I'm sure. Or yes, a AK-103. Ak-103s are cool, too. But that's not an AN-94. The stock and the grip of the AN-94 would be lower than on this pic too.

i think you misread my comment. I know it's an AK variant, but she said she used the mix of designs. the forend in particular is from an AN-94 inspiration. while the barrel and gas block looks like a 45 degree gas block from an early 1970's AKM-74 series.

This reminds me of that movie "Tomorrow, When the War Began", which is kinda like if Red Dawn was set in Australia.
There's this one girl in the movie who doesn't like guns or anything and doesn't fight like her friends, but then one of them gets blind sided and she panics and grabs and AK and just mows down a group of soldiers.
