You never know, you may be surprised at what it can actually handle. The integrated sound card in my laptop can natively support 24bit/192khz playback and recording. Too bad the cheap, weak, low quality headphone amp ruins the sound coming from the 24bit/192khz DAC inside the card. If only I can tap directly into the line output signal of the DAC that goes to the headphone amp. Therefore bypassing the weak amp inside and connecting the pure line out signal into a better amp.
I understand the latency issue getting annoying. I once ran a software EQ though the main system audio and the latency was fine for music, but for videos and games it got annoying because the sound was out of sync with the image.
Getting a sound card that officially supports ASIO recording and playback would help reduce the latency to almost no noticeable latency at all.
