WIP Caia Fursuit head update
She's just missing her cheek dots and mussy fur now, going to work on the hand paws today! I see a lot of mistakes on her, but I'm still really happy with her <3

Lots of people use duct tape or some other tape to mark and cut up to get the shapes right--- I just eyeballed it and pushed construction paper up against the head to make sure that the shapes were right. Then you just hot glue the pieces down or use some strong foam-safe glue.
Here's a helpful link~ (I didn't follow the instructions since I've worked with fur before and I'm better at eye-balling, but it's a good start!)

Well, what I'm having a hard time figuring out is how the patterning works with the duct tape and what you do after. I know that you first need to tape around all of your head and then draw out the patterns for where you want your fur to go. But how do you remove it? How is the pattern you made drawn into the fur? And most importantly, how is the fur sewn together?
Okay, usually after the pattern is drawn on, you use some sort of blade or sharp scissors to trace the lines you made. label the parts as you go so that you don't forget where each part goes. Once the parts have been sliced by your blade, you just slip your fingers under and peel off the tape. As each part is torn from the foam, lay it flat on a peice of card stock or other firm surface. If the piece doesn't lay flat, you'll need to cut it into smaller parts until it does. Once the duct tape parts are placed onto the paper, you cut around them. That will give you a solid pattern piece.
These pattern pieces are now what you use to cut the fur. Make an arrow or some indication of what direction your fur is pointing (so that all the fur is going in the direction you want it to go in). You place the pattern pieces on the fur's backing and trace with either a marker or chalk. Once the peices are traced, you can either cut them out CAREFULLY with a blade, OR you can do what I did and use fabric scissors. If you use scissors, you must keep the blades VERY close to the mesh backing in order to not cut the fur itself, just the mesh it's attached to.
If you want to sew the peices, that will be more durable, but more time-consuming. You would sew them just like any other project--- the part you want on the outside will be put on the inside, and the part you want on the inside will be on the outside while you stitch. That's because you don't want the stitches to show when you're done, once the parts are sewn together you flip it inside out.
Sewing on a foam head would be VERY difficult, and there's a chance the fur wouldn't fit properly over the head--- you would more than likely need to use a zipper or buttons. The more common solution is to use hot glue on the edges of the fur panels you've cut out. Slowly glue the pieces down.
Then that's all you really need... If you're still confused, let me know what you're confused with. ^_^
I hope this helped a little!!!
