I see myself has having two sides to my spirit. The first is my inner faerie, and this is my inner wolf, the other half of my spiritual self. While the inner faerie is my connection to the Gods and the Spirit Realm, the inner wolf is my connection to the Earth and the realm of the animals. It is the side that carries the basic instincts every creature needs to survive as well as the unique teachings each animal possesses and passes along to us in their role as a totem or spirit guide.
I have had a deep connection to wolves for years, and have for a long time considered myself more wolf than human - though I am physically human, spiritually I am a wolf. I have dreamt of running with wolves, sometimes as a wolf myself, and continually surround myself with these animals through artwork, posters, books, movies and other objects depicting wolves. I have even seen wolves in person, though sadly it has always been through a fence. Someday I hope to be able to see and maybe even interract with a wild wolf, even if its only for a few seconds.
Onto the description - my inner wolf is marked like the typical Grey or Timber wolf, with shades of black, grey, buff, and tan with a lighter underside. I also add a tiger (another of my totems) stripe pattern to the forearms (and the shins as well but they aren't showing in this picture) and sometimes give my inner wolf wings, black like a raven's wings. She is seen here wearing arm cuffs with celtic knotwork and a pentacle with a green stone in the center. Her eyes are also green - its my favorite color and represents the element of earth.
The name of my inner wolf is Nightwolf...that's where the screen name Luthien Nightwolf comes from.
Nightwolf is surrounded by green leafy vines which intertwine to form an oval frame. Two butterflies flutter among the vines searching for flowers or perhaps just a shady place to rest.

Beautiful. Detailed. Also, I like the very thoughtful description of your relation to your inner wolf. One could debate with no end whether it's truly a connection with the earth and nature, or just an illusion and alienation from your human side, but still, I admire the thoroughness and sincereness, as I'm very nonreligious, nonspiritual, myself and lack any feel of connection to ideals or the supernatural. In that sense, with my dead serious logic and scientific method, I'm the crippled one, not being able to feel the connection to more spiritual side of the world.
Anyway, magnificent picture, I love all the little details. Great work.

heh, well i think it's the most popular submission because there's just something about it that's so wonderful. the pose, the look on her face, the style, the hair, her color, that gorgeous border...it's just a beautiful piece and it's my favorite out of your gallery ^^
1. I can't believe I haven't noticed this before.
2. The entirety of the pic, from Nightwolf's pose accentuating the eyes to the vines composing the frame to even the butterflies around the edges, gave me a feeling of calmness when I looked as it, as well as making me think the picture itself had a mystical or magical aura around it. There are two particular things I like about it, firstly the eyes that stand out from the rest despite being so small, as well as the ironic, almost hypocritical fact that nothing stands out at all, meaning nothing detracts from anything else; everything featured poses as a compliment to everything else, so that no one part of the picture is the focus. At least, in my opinion.
Wow... I have not done a critique this long in a long time.

Hehe, yeah this was the very first thing I put up when I joined FA, and still one of my favorites. It was one of those pictures that I didn't plan, I just sat down to draw one day and this came out, but its had some pretty good reviews. ^_^
I'll have to check out that song. :3

I don't remember which album I've got but those titles sound familiar, I think they might be on it.
I used to work at a daycare with 2 year olds, that cd was one of the ones I'd play during naptime to get the kids to settle down and go to sleep. Helped calm my nerves a bit too!
