UPD = Unicorn Protection Device
The UPD first appeared on The Gneech's NeverNever's first collection's, Childproof the Unicorn's, front cover.
S. Kidwell, aka White Pony, saw the UPD and ran with it. You used to be able to buy a UPD from the CTC web site.
Basically the UPD is there to protect people from the sharp point of a unicorn alicorn. It also, according to White Pony, stops a unicorn from using his alicorn's magic.

Take red rubberball, drill in slightly conical hole, poke on Unicorn horn => Voila!
