Maldoror?

Have you read Les Chants de Maldoror by de Lautréamont (Isidore Ducasse)? One of the strangest books I've read, and I specialize in strange books.

By the way, for the sake of idiom:

In English, people would play a joke on someone -- "The joke's on you!"

The Archmage would decide "what will become" of Caire.

Guests are made to feel at home.

Also, Caire would like the captain to think that she's there by chance.

But in any language, these dog-thing soldiers can't be trusted.

I have read it yes, but in French and didn't enjoyed it a lot. I guess I'll have to find a translated copy sooner or later. But mostly, I knew about him through goth music, Bauhaus and Current 93 mention him. Yah, I'm so trash-pop-cultured...
