Scampering through the wild fields all day,
running, jumping, looking for friends to play.
Up ahead, ahoy, some playful lookin' critters,
as the striped one approached, everyone got the jitters.
They scattered away, no second to spare,
the skunk jumped in shock, “Hey, come back, no fair!”
Meal time ahead, what could be for dinner?
Following his nose, the air couldn't be thinner.
Coming across a nice feeding spot,
Another comes to investigate the plot.
The skunk offered to share, but with mild disgust,
The fox turned up his nose, walking away, another bust.
Why do they dislike me so? He pondered through the day,
Lonely and bored, he feels that dismay.
Is it how I look? Am I too small? Maybe too quiet?
A nearby bunny hops over laughing, “What a riot!”
What's so funny? The skunk inquired curiously,
“Why it's your smell!” the rabbit answered furiously.
I can't help my musk, it's a part of me!
The rabbit shook his head and pinched his nose, imparting to flee.
Then one day came about, sunny and warm with a light breeze,
the skunk came across a ferret, who began a conversation with ease.
They introduced one another and to the skunk's surprise,
the ferret wasn't disgusted, a friendly look in his eyes.
You don't mind the way I smell? The musk from my tail?
The ferret replied, you are who you are, that shall never fail.
As the days went by they became the best of friends,
the skunk wasn't alone any longer, his peace could make amends.
