Then use some salt. Ghosts don't like salt. :D You said that you are going to give it something to eat, so when you give him/her some canned beans be sure to use a lot of salt, then the ghost will suffer from EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA!!!! Mu ha ha ha ha!
