Description and Basic Information
The Farb Rasse is a strong, agile, and swift breed of near draft proportions. The smallest pure FR was 15.2hh, weighed only 1100lbs, and was a mare, while the tallest, also a mare, was 22.1hh and weighed more than 2000lbs. The FR is a tall, well proportioned, and muscular horse. With a deep chest thick girth and strong, slightly swayed back, they can be tough to fit saddles to but the extra work is well worth it. The FR have long, strong legs, muscular hindquarters, well defined shoulders, and wide flaring nostrils. Easily faster than many horses their size the FR excels in almost all fields of competition and work. The faster members of the breed have been known to win races against thoroughbreds, and the strongest have easily beaten shires and percherons in pulling contests. The FR is generally a mild mannered horse, sweet tempered, slow to agitate, and quick to calm.
Breeding – How it works and how often
The FR are unusual horses to say the least. Mares are fertile from age 3 until about age 40, and can live to be easily 60 years old, however, they only come into season every 4-5 years, although it is not unheard of for a shorter time to take place between seasons. When bred to a pure stallion of the same breed, they often produce 3 foals in a single pregnancy, although it is rare that more than two will survive to be an adult. The foals do not leave their mother’s side until they are age two and removing them from their mother’s care before this time can prove harmful to the offspring. Breeding with another breed will have a 50/50 chance of the offspring being infertile, and will rarely have more than one foal born. Since FR foals are born smaller than your average draft foal, cross breeding does not take advantage of this fact and will in extreme cases case cause a still born or even a premature stillborn.
