COST OF DOLL
Beginning at $35-$40 for Teacup, increases for each size. Varies on Mini Wyrms: my first one was $180 through an online auction, my second was $60 with shipping through a guess-the-number raffle.
WHEN WAS THIS DOLL MADE?
2012 and 2013
WAS THIS DOLL A PROTOTYPE?
No
COMMUNICATION
Good. Pictures were posted when the wyrms were finished and it was publicly posted when they were shipped out.
DID THEY MEET YOUR DEADLINE?
Pretty much. These have a minimum turnaround of 3 months, as they're made in large batches, as well as needing individual "genetics" sorted out.
HOW WAS THE ART DOLL PACKAGED?
No special instructions. These are extremely carefully packed, at first in Tupperware containers, now in Useful Boxes and specialized shipping containers for international players. They are always wrapped in bubblewrap and padded envelopes.
DID YOUR DOLL ARRIVE IN ONE PIECE?
These three arrived in perfect condition, although occasionally horns and other parts that stick out can snap off in shipping, regardless of how well it's wrapped. Fortunately the repairs are easily made with a gel-based superglue.
WAS YOUR DOLL SEWN?
-was your doll sewn together, maybe glued in specific areas that may have otherwise been to difficult to sew with machine or by hand?
-was your doll completely glued together or assembled with another material that is not a traditional means to assemble a doll.
The Teacup in this review was one of the last ones to be glued together fur for the bodies and the seam is very clean, if a bit stiff. It's underneath the body in such a way that it's not noticeable unless it's held and even then it's very tidy and can only be found by running a finger down it.. Teacups since then have had sewn bodies, making them softer and more flexible. The Mini wyrms have sewn bodies. All of them have Sculpey and expoy clay heads glued onto the bodies.
IS YOUR DOLL FLOPPY STYLE OR ARTICULATED?
The Teacups, because of their size, are floppy. The Mini wyrms each have an armature. One has wire and the other has ball socket. The armature in each is well padded. Each wyrm is nicely poseable, although the ball and socket armature is a little stiff.
STABILITY, IS YOUR DOLL STABLE?
These particular dolls are meant to be worn around as well as displayed on a shelf. The Teacups have a pin on their undersides so they can be attached to things, while the Minis and the larger wyrms can be wrapped around a wrist, the neck or around the shoulders. The comfort of them can depend on the details that have been sculpted onto the heads.
DOLL DETAIL
The heads of Teacup and Mini wyrms are sculpted out of Sculpey and epoxy clay, with some painted details. The paint on my Teacup hasn't chipped at all. The heads of my Minis are wonderfully detailed. Eden has a beautiful floral vine pattern sculpted onto her head and Sir Grey has, along with very expressive eyebrows and a marbled colouration, has a felt top hat and a monocle. These are firmly attached onto the head and show no signs of separating off by chance.
FABRIC DETAILING
-if the body had a pattern, were the details sewn on, glued on, painted on? How was the quality of these details?
-if the details are painted, how is the quality?
-is the fabric cleanly attached to the hard parts? are there un-trimmed fabric pieces? Is the fur mottled with glue?
The fabric on all three wyrms is immaculate. As previously stated, this particulr Teacup has a glued fur body, but the seam is invisible. The Minis are very well sewn and the point the heads are attached is glued together seamlessly.
MATERIALS
All the materials are very high quality. The furs used are shag and soft to the touch. The Minis in particular each have a cluster of feathers on the tips of their tails. These were and still are in perfect shape and blend nicely into the seam.
WOULD YOU BUY FROM AGAIN OR RECOMMEND?
I started out with two Teacups. In the intervening two years, I've ended up with 21 Teacup wyrms and the two Mini wyrms. So... yeah, I'd buy from again. XD And I would absolutely recommend this artist. She is quick to communicate with the wyrm owners and always lets them know if there are delays or other complications that will slow down completion and shipping.
FINAL SCORE OUT OF 5: 5
While the artist doesn't take commissions, the breeding game the wyrms are a part of allows for an opportunity to get a unique work of art if one can catch the "breeding seasons" and get a slot. And if it's not exactly what you were hoping for, there is always another wyrm owner who is willing to trade.
