Rufus is a long time friend of Vincent and Tabitha from the family vacations they went on to Sunnyshore City where Rufus was from. The trio would spend days at the beach just surfing and enjoying the surroundings in what became an annual trip for the Tellamapolou family, and Tabitha always tagging along. Rufus himself is a bit of an oddity among his kind in that he’s a surfer, someone who loves to get out in the ocean and just spend hours doing nothing but communing with the sea. The child of a Floatzel and a Raichu he grew up near the sea and always seemed to have an aptitude for riding boards and claims he was surfing before he was walking. Rufus himself is laid back, and has turned his ability to surf into sponsorships on the junior circuit, which has also lead to his scholarship to the PCA.
An adept battler he enters the PCA as the official Team Generation alternate as a favor to his old buddy Vincent. A junior who did some fighting back at his old school he decided to transfer more to get a better education. His love of the ocean trumps even his love of surfing and the young mouse intends to become a marine biologist after he graduates rather than continue on with a surfing career. He doesn’t plan to give up the lifestyle though, being more than happy to earn a little extra coin while plying his secondary trade. After Vincent went down with his heart condition Rufus was chosen to take over the captainship of the team. While Rufus had been with the team the least amount of time he was still the unanimous choice due to his level headed nature. He’s still not sure if he’s going to be very good at it, but he’s thankful he’s got his team’s support and Vince is still around to help him with it.
This extends into his attitude on battling as he very much has a lot of patience. Not one to charge headlong into a fight he prefers to let people come to him and react. That isn’t to say he doesn’t go in with a plan so much as he understands that the ‘mon who tries to force the wave can be disappointed, where as the man who reads the ocean and lets the wave come to him can really shred. One unusual attack that’s a left over from his father the Floatzel is that he knows the move Surf. This has caused more than one opponent to freak out and fall backward when they see a yellow mousemon Surfing atop a nasty looking wave. More than one uptight Ground-type has cursed Rufus for this.
Rufus is the quintessential surf dude in appearance. His hair is usually well coifed though it looks like he didn’t even touch it while rolling out of bed in the morning. Rufus is also well built thanks to years of paddling out into the surf and fighting the motion. He usually prefers to dress in a relaxed manner with board shorts, a tank-top with an open button-up shirt over it. When things are colder he’ll usually fall back to a long sleeve version of this get-up. It’s rare to see Rufus not smiling and is an incredibly laid back and friendly guy to get to know.
Name: Philip “Pip” Pirinip
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Species: Primeape
Type: Fighting
Grade: Junior
Team: Generations (Alternate)
Ability: Anger Point
Moves: Karate Chop, Focus Energy, Leer, Rage, Protect, Double Team, Close Combat, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, Rage, Protect
Philip gained his nickname of Pip as a toddler when his young tongue was unable to pronounce either his first or last name. As a result Pip was the only sound he was capable of making and so the nickname stuck within his family and then those around him. Pip hails from an upstanding family of simian Poke from the Lilycove area of the Hoenn region. He and his family believed in civility in all things, though there is one very broad exception that is made: the ring. The Pirinip family has long been a part of professional battling and is well known for their tendency to freak out and gain a rather berserker style of combat as soon as the Ref says go. Even with this prior knowledge many members of Pip’s family have gone on to great success in the Leagues, even if none of them has ever won the Grand Champion tournament. Pip is the third generation of his family to attend the PCA, something that made him perfect for the team.
The Primeape was approached by Vincent to join the team as the second alternate shortly before Vincent had his heart troubles. Pip had done quite well for himself as an independent and occasional alternate but was hoping to at least experience the team structure at some point in his school career. With Vince having to step down as the leader of Team Generations it left Pip open to take on the sole active alternative spot, especially since the previous alternate Rufus has become the new Team Captain. Pip has settled into the team fairly well even if he and the team are still getting used to one another. He’s also quite enjoyed being introduced to a young Infernape lady named Overnia whom he’s been spending a lot of his time with.
Pip’s style of combat is somewhat odd in that he seems the picture of calm until the battle starts. After that his monocle goes flying as well as his hat and then he battles like what one would expect form a Primeape. Using various physical attacks Pip tries to swarm and overwhelm his opponents through sheer force. While in this state it seems like the Primeape isn’t in control of his actions though the fact he has a fairly decent success rate in battles would argue otherwise. With his arsenal of elemental punches he tends to be able to cover a good range of types, even though he still has issues with Psychics, though he bares them no ill will as a result.
Pip is fairly slender for a Primeape and keeps himself in excellent shape. His expression is usually calm and its not uncommon to see him smiling even if it is something of a bemused expression at times. He tends to prefer to dress in more proper clothing such as his slacks and sweater vest. He’s rare among ‘morphs in that he prefers to wear shoes as well to compliment the outfit. Beyond that he’s best recognized for his bowler hat and monocle. The monocle was passed down from his great uncle who was the first member of his family to attend the PCA. While he doesn’t actually need to wear it he’s chosen to do so in his honor.
