Lily from Ani-droids setting (Argo, still working on Isomorph)—sans “makeup”
I have had a bit of trouble with ani-droid designs as they never quite look like the blend of organic design and inorganic underpinnings, but perhaps that’s because the inorganic parts are so hidden in still images—they BEHAVE robotically, but it doesn’t always come across (especially when they eschew rigidity associated with that)
So something I’m toying with is an alternate design—“sans makeup”. Their outer covering is an important reactive substance marketed as Pseudoskin that generates power on contact with water (talked about in Argo) but I considered that the way it forms, while its initial state is putty, when it dries in the air it becomes firm. So maybe it has trouble contracting properly in certain areas, such as the inside of joints.
So this would be Lily after Pseudoskin is applied, dried, and fur has “grown” from it, but the pliable non-reactive makeup skin has been left off.
Maybe I’ll play with this a bit more—other alternatives to Pseudoskin? Eo’s skin was a substance that was form-fitted to her, perhaps alternately powered (cheaper) ani-droids use a suit covering?

Keep in mind that aesthetic "hinting" doesn't necessarily require ratification. People found a way to ratify the Kessel Run. A lot of times fans imagine answers better than I ever could have. Personally, I like this look.
Something else to keep in mind is that the staccato movements of today's robots will diminish. I would venture to guess that well within our lifetime we'll see androids indistinguishable from the real deal.
Cute image by the way. Love the expression. Looks like she just woke up.

Staccato movements would be taken out, yes, but 'moving like a human' is in some ways inefficient, so when moving in a way to maximize efficiency, and not to impress on humans, their movements would appear fluid straightforward, and a little stiff (stopping instantly right where they need to without that little wobble humans have, etc)
