Created as a proof is a concept, K.M.OS (Kode Monkey Operating System)
was a prototype, an experiment. His name (and indeed his gender) is
a misnomer. K.M.OS wasn't much of an Operating System, it was more
of a language, a concept, an initial vision of self-aware, evolving,
artificially created intelligence.
After a highly successful trial period more and more features were
added. First simple projection, allowing Kode to show himself. They
had named him Monkey, so Kode envisioned himself as a monkey.
He might be an A.I, but he was very much influenced by his creators.
Evolving the software the engineers and programmers managed to
create, quite by chance, force fields. When the technology was
established, soon extending the effective area of the force field was
getting easier and easier, soon it could even be projected. Kode
proved invaluable in helping make this technology a reality.
Tired of his mechanised projector, Kode managed to get a second and
a third projector ordered. Combining the projectors with the force field,
Kode had created a tangible, three dimensional body for himself.
Transcending pet project, Kode became an established member of the
team working on K.M.OS.
Perfecting and refining their technologies, the group achieved a
projected image which wasn't dependent of clear line of sight.
Ultraviolet and Infrared radiation were used to penetrate even
solid structures. The receptors were an electromagnetic field created
by the force field. Combining the technologies had allowed for sparks
of bright light to flicker, like a tiny aurora borealis. Subsequent
refinement allowed for more controlled bursts of light, turning Kode's
projected body into a three dimensional display with more and
more sophisticated capabilities.
Soon Kode could seamlessly replicate a natural, if untextured body,
looking for all the world as real as some of his simian colleagues.
Further manipulation of the force field generation allowed for a less
smooth body, allowing the creation of muscles, hair follicles abs even
subdermal veins.
Kode found that the more real he became the more uneasy some of
his friends and colleagues became. He deliberately changed his
appearance. Over night he shed his data of the realistic simian and
replaced his external projection with a vortex of binaries, 1s and 0s.
