Bio:
Kingman had a fairly normal childhood, and was a typical, though somewhat gifted college student in pursuit of degrees in Archaeology and Theology. When the opportunity came to intern with his professors in Egypt he leapt at the chance, however once in Egypt his life changed dramatically.
During a dig near the sphinx the young puma found a gold locket in the sand. Thinking someone dropped it he reached down to pick up and found the tiny locket held firm. He tugged hard and then the sand gave way and swallowed him up. From that point on, to his fellow interns, professors, and authorities he literally fell off the face of the Earth. The truth of what happened was thus:
He was brought to the throne room of Mafdet the Egyptian cat goddess, of justice, judgement and execution.
The battle scarred lioness and goddess, looked down at him and pointed a executioner’s staff at him. But then stepped up to him and explained the locket could only be seen by the chosen of fateweavers, and would be the champion of all feline kind in the world and that prophecies around the world and pantheons had gone incredibly awry. The great war of good and evil, Ragnarok did not go as planned. What should have ushered in a clean and safe new age, under the banner of the holy and good did not occur and many great divine powers were extinguished. Instead time marched on. With little desire to explain further Mafdet offered a sample of the powers of the dead god Tezcatlipoca wielded, in exchange for Kingman’s allegiance when the true final battle when it comes.
While good hearted the temptation of power, to be more then mortal was too much for Kingman to ignore. He signed his allegiance Mafdet on a scroll of holy papyrus and waited. At that moment Mafdet plunged a golden dagger into his chest and tore his mortal heart out...and whispered promise of a guide to help his ‘journey’.
When Kingman awoke he was no longer in Egypt, and found himself in the smoldering hot South American jungle. Kingman was taken in by a poor village, and learned that he had literally materialized in a ball of green fire that fell from the sky. He was seen as a sign of god, or ill omen depending on who asked who about him. He also found he had no memory of his past life, other than the agreement he made with Mafdet, but with the village giving him a home he quickly made himself useful. When drug runners attacked the village for resources, he fought tooth and nail against them, his instincts driving him to vengeance, killing a drug runner for each villager killed or enslaved. Blood on both sides stained the jungle until a group of mercenaries appeared and aided the villagers in destroying drug runners. But the village had been caught in the crossfire and reduced to ashes. The survivors left homeless, scattered leaving Kingman without a home again as well. The mercenaries though saw the blood drenched Kingman and offered him a simple choice. “Die for his sins, or join them.” For the first time Kingman noticed the forest alive with spectral cats, that had torn at and slaughtered any surviving drug runners. For those tense moments after the undead waited for just a shift in Kingman’s intentions to leap upon the mercenaries…
And thus Kingman joined the Inquisition, namely particular sect known as the Silvestris that believed through any faith in any religion would be welcome and used in the fight against evil. His curiosity and eye for more potential power making his decision easy. The fact they didn’t judge his tale of being with the goddess Mafdet didn’t faze them. The mercenaries were led by Kassandra Kaiserin, Kingman became acolyte to Kassandra, which at the time meant he was both protégé and bottom tier of the group for all manual labor and tasks Kassandra needed to carry out. Under Kassandra’s tutelage he learned powerful martial arts, mastering Sansei Goju Ryu, how to wear and move in body armor, and wield a variety of weapons. He took to wielding maces, and hammers like a fish to water.
The Inquisition dragged him from one violent encounter to the next, travelling the world almost nonstop, and fell in love with Mia, Kassandra’s personal driver and pilot. She possessed a custom built jetbike and he would gladly hold on to her in the seat behind her as she showed him the joys of flight and raw speed. He became her confidant and learned that at heart she was a coward, preferring to ferry others to a fight, or scout and retreat from trouble rather than engage it. His powers developed in creative and lethal ways under Kassandra, but with Mia he learned the source of those powers was the dead souls of all cat kind on the planet, he also found a gentle side to his powers bringing forth lost kittens to age old mothers, and giving those that had no kind words in life comfort.
But it was not to last. On the mission that would see his first evaluation to become an Inquisitor, his love Mia lost her life. She had tried to impress as well, to make her beloved look even better, and so instead of scouting for the enemy and falling back to report, she engaged and though she did a great deal of damage, the cult’s weapons cut her down. By the time Kingman and the rest had made contact with the enemy Kingman watched her kamikaze into the beached submarine the cultists were using as a base. By giving her life she crippled the vile cultists. They spared no one.
The day was won, but it was a somber and bitter lesson. Kingman retreated into the bottle and was found drunk in Bangkok by his normally harsh and abusive commander. But instead of punishment Kassandra took sympathy and explained this would not be the first or last time he would experience loss. Drunk and depressed he found a Siamese house cat near his hotel. And then the house cat talked.
Believing this to be part of his powers and/or being drunk he started to walk away, but was immediately struck in the back of the head by a thrown pizza box. He turned and watched the Siamese cat lick itself as if nothing had happened. When he tried to turn again he was hit again this time by a comical cream pie. Angry he strode past the cat to find the person that was throwing things and was hit again, but when he looked down it was a live grenade. He dove for cover expecting to be blown to bits, but the grenade broke apart opening like Russian Matryoshka dolls then exploding into confetti. Stunned and looking at the smirking Siamese. Kingman met the god of mischief, the god of fire, his promised guide, the Loki.
Loki bowed and then laughed. He was not a cat, the real god just locked in the form, for his crimes. He informed Kingman he was chosen by the pantheons to be his guide on Earth, and since it beat his other option of being rechained to a rock and having poison dripped on him…he chose babysitting duty.
Despite their ideological differences the cat and acolyte became fast friends. Loki’s opinions even carried weight with Kassandra, for while chaotic and often nonsensical his words had the wisdom of an immortal deity. Kassandra was not at all shaken by the god’s arrival for her faction of the Inquisition played on that multi-religious factor in fighting evil. A shotgun blast of faiths against the darkness opposed to the rigid single devout power of a single church.
Kassandra led her team on more adventures and Kingman learned the art of torture and interrogation, learning how to twist knives, and use the most subtle of tools to maximize non-lethal pain. He was a quick study, but it also made him sick to his core. One moment glad to tear a demon apart as it emerged into the mortal world. The next sick that a child would have to ‘disappear’ because her parents were the cultists about to sacrifice her, the child fated to either be brainwashed, forced reconstructive surgery, and made an orphan, or be absorbed into Project Orphan, the Inquisition’s Black Guard soldier program.
Kingman was promoted to full Inquisitor in just a year, the fastest rise to the position since the creations of the ‘factions’ within the Inquisition. His first mission was uncovering the treachery of a rogue Inquisitor named Jorge San Juan. It ended with finding the rogue Inquisitor an unwitting pawn, and it spiraled into a civil war the moment Kingman executed San Juan.
The internal wars led to the revelation that Kassandra’s own brother was the mastermind of a plot that would have dropped the mortal realm into the layers of hell, and breaking the rest off to give to other interested parties. To that end Kassandra lead her team, Kingman and Loki through a portal and onto the outer walls of the 7th circle. But Kassandra’s brother had even planned for this and laid an allied ambush of demonic forces and though they fought valiantly, they were overpowered. Kingman and Kassandra stood back to back until the final moments when Kassandra’s brother appeared, and offered his sister asylum. She refused and Kassandra’s brother had his personal demonic general attack her, the Klurichir used its stomach mouth to bite her arm off at the elbow during their one on one duel, its powers far beyond even her own. Kingman turned his back on the horde to come to her rescue only to be impaled by demon known as a Bebilith and pinned to the dirt.
Before the death blows could be struck though, divine intervention occurred. Tioria, a powerful ‘spatial kinetic’ psychic under Kassandra’s command, that Kingman had come to trust and developed a mutual love interest with, had used her mastery of the void and space to find them and report the evidence of the sibling’s treachery. As time flows differently on different planes the battle in hell seemed like minutes, but it was many months in the mortal realm, Tioria with many other Inquisitors and the Black Guard joined with Valkeries and Seraphim fell into hell again, and managed to drive off the demons before their blades and claws could kill.
Though rescued from certain death, Kassandra and her team was shattered. With a massive hole in leadership among the factions they consolidated their positions, and Kassandra rose to High Lord, while most of her surviving mercenaries retired from their wounds. Kingman and Loki became lone Inquisitorial operatives after the house cat returned from hell unscathed as if nothing had ever happened, and Kingman was saved by round the clock surgery and many months of healing both magical and mundane. The wound over his shoulder even though healed was so bad the scar would never allow fur to regrow there.
On his own Kingman once again wondered the world under the guise of a wealthy nobleman. The Inquisition basically serving as his treasurer, in truth he has to fill out paperwork on top of paperwork to get much of anything and has dipped into being a bodyguard for a Triad’s daughter, and starting a business as a private eye. The former became his adopted sister, and he discovered her incredible powers of wind, rain and lightning. Unlike her father and other mentors he constantly urges her to let loose her powers and go all out. He even became a superhero, when she walked that path as well, which got him his first taste of the Bureau of Superheroes.
As an unregistered Kingman pointed out and criticized capes and do gooders for not having the gall and balls to win. He quit the cape business almost as soon as he started, letting his sister Katavina have that spotlight. He soon found his talents and Inquisitorial training matched the private eye business but developed a distaste for it too when he found it was less ‘tailing drug lords’ and more ‘see if my husband/wife is cheating with that guy/girl/goat/etc.’ Still it allows him some financial independence and he has a knack for it. In a weird way, he gets excited when someone goes missing and he is asked to find missing those persons. He then gleefully puts his skills at intelligence gathering and hunting to great use. He doesn’t always get a happy end in that course though, but something about trying to find someone still gives him a great sense of purpose.
Still he is an Inquisitor, and he often works with a Hierophant Priestess named Bella who is a ‘Tiefling’ Amur Leopard. And a fellow Native American, the combat medic Brooke Riverrunner who helps him fight demonic incursions, stop cults, and generally be a thorn in the side of evil. He also found the bound and lingering soul of one of Mafdet’s earlier champions and failed experiment, the Prince Nemean, He fought and absorbed the soul into his own when he used his powers over the souls of the feline dead to draw away all of Nemean’s souls into his own, weakening the former champion, he was able to drag the evil prince into his essence and obliterate the monster once and for all.
It was the BOS though that came to him seeking his powers to find one of their own, a cheetah girl named Oasis, that has since led him into actually joining, while taking an ‘indefinite release’ from the Inquisition and trying to be a superhero again. He has found the BOS has given him the structure and order he craved, without the political backstabbing and intrigue he had gotten so used to in the Inquisition. Even though he calls himself the Inquisitor in honor of what he had done, he is very protective of his ‘darker’ elements of his past, wanting to be liked by his fellow BOS members.
Personality:
Kingman is a cat personified sometimes, kind but aloof, friendly but distant, and the most kind hearted asshole in all of existence.
To him overkill isn’t excessive, it’s insurance.
He also incredibly vain and prideful, He loves him some him. He frets over look and style.
He can also be a bit standoffish and stubborn. He will smoke in the no smoking section and blow the smoke in the face of the first person that complains.
His ‘nobility’ and divine powers also makes him arrogant and cocksure in himself, but when proven wrong he is defensive, and gets depressed if he can’t solve a problem on his own merits.
He will give the clothes off his back to help someone in dire need. And more if he feels it’s necessary for them to survive.
He is also a major tail chaser and cheesy Casanova. Thinking himself good looking and charismatic enough to get anyone…which leads to a lot of mixed results, some really good, some really bad…(including being thrown off a balcony by one lady in particular)
Still for all his faults he tries to do what he feels is right, he believes in God, gods, and country. He can’t understand atheists or anarchists. Especially when he has been the houses of Egyptian and Norse gods, and met with the spirits of his ancestors, he can come off as rude and even intolerant to those views.
He also tries to find reconnect with his Native American roots, finding the name Rainwhisker in his dreams, as his real spirit name, something he finds amusing since he hates water.
His greatest joys are cigars, good alcohol, good hard rock and metal music, loyal friends, and watching football.
He also has a love for bondage, especially being the submissive, but keeps that info mostly to himself, and few others.
He likes being on his own, but hates being alone, though Loki his best friend, and Katavina his adopted sister are the closest relations he has, he is constantly traveling, and is afraid to bring people into his life, especially when he is surrounded by so much violence, and political intrigue.
