While doing some yard work earlier today, I stumbled across this cute little fella. My dad nearly drove over it with his lawnmower, so the poor thing nearly averted a disaster! I know it's a black chafer, but I am still trying to identify WHICH one exactly (there are so many different chafers/scarab beetles in Europe it's not even funny). I released him as soon as I took these photos.
Behavior-wise, it tends to play dead when being grabbed, and after being held in hand for a while it begins to scuttle around, looking for a way to escape and occasionally acts as if it's trying to burrow into the skin.
