This is a short teaser of stories to come showing a little bit about the past of Wilmer Grehr, GM of the Hawaii Kahunas FBA team. It's actually rather terrible, and will likely go to scraps, but just wanted people to have a taste. I'm mean like that.
The coach’s whistle blew and the players on the court settled down, practice coming to an end. With a soft huff, Wilmer ran a hand over his hair, shaking some of the sweat from his brow casually as he looked out onto the bleachers on one side of the court. There were a few girls dotted about, giggling and cheering for whomever they were crushing on that particular week. It made the red deer chuckle a little before his gaze passed over a quiet, smiling figure on the top row. An odd creature, really. Stubby horns, dark chocolate fur, and striking white markings. And distinctly male.
It was rare to see lone males in the bleachers, and this one seemed to be taking little interest in actually watching the practice and was focusing more on a sketchbook in his lap.
“Oi! Will!” The red deer snapped his head around as he was shouted at by his teammate, looking towards the lanky sheep in surprise with a frown of confusion on his features.
“Wha’ d’ya want Duncan?”
“Yer staring at the guy up top. Y’know him?”
“Naw. Never seen ‘im before Dunc. Just weird ta see a bloke in the stands, yeah?” Wilmer said with a grin and a chuckle as he brushed his hand through his head against and moved to clap the sheep on the back. “Come’n, le’s go change.” The pair moved off to the locker room, Wilmer glancing back briefly only to find that the strange boys was gone from the bleachers, as though he’d never even been there. Shaking his head, the red deer carried on with the remainder of his day, which mainly consisted of returning home and working on his homework.
But after that day, Wilmer discovered that the other teen was actually in a couple of classes with him, a new student apparently. Ariel Jardine, an okapi of all things. He found himself rather intrigued by the fellow teen, but never dared approach him; his friends would make him a laughing stock if the great jock, Wilmer Grehr, took time to actually talk to the new kid.
Besides, it wasn’t like Ariel was his type.
It was a well-known fact that Wilmer liked the girls. He was rarely seen without a small hoard of them chasing after him; not only was he a strong player on the high school’s basketball team, but he was considered to be the most attractive boy in school by many of the females. And if he wasn’t first, he was usually a close second.
But nonetheless, Ariel drew his gaze on a regular basis.
Wilmer blamed it all on that first glance.
