"The written word is all that stands between memory and oblivion. Without books as our anchors, we are cast adrift, neither teaching, nor learning. They are windows on the past, mirrors on the present, and prisms reflecting all possible futures. Books are lighthouses erected in the dark sea of time."
And to think these lines came out of a Disney animated series. There was plenty of action in Gargoyles, but a ton of character arcs, complex characters, and even references to Shakespeare and Arthurian legend.
There's a few scenes with Goliath in a library and since I bought the first two seasons on DVD, I've been itching to draw him.
Go check out of the series if you haven't already. It's all on YouTube.

Yeah there is that one problem, and yet somehow Tron Legacy got in Dream Drop, even though it wasn't that impressive. Japan ate it up for some reason and I'm not sure why.
The other problem stems from the fact that Gargoyles was not popular in Japan. I forgot where I read it, but there were some claims of them not "getting it" as they watched the episodes. Lots of "what's the point?" type questions.

Yeah, pretty much. People always say jokes in pap like "Adventure Time" and "Regular Show" are really deep, but I remind them that one of the only cartoons to win multiple Emmy Awards was Batman the Animated Series, because the writing was just THAT good. Back in the 90's, shows like Rocko's Modern Life and Animaniacs that had episodes either banned or censored because they were THAT racy, and shows now get away with a lot more, but in a much less amusing manner. Animaniacs also had great gags based on double entendres, or making fun of the fact there were hidden adult meanings (like when Wakko would sometimes say "Good night folks!" after they said something particularly cheeky) instead of just doing gross/dumb things up front like cartoons now do.
Well its not even just that at least the 90 cartoons had morals lessons and BIG WORDS. I am shocked whenever I go watch shows like Extreme Dinosaurs and especially street sharks at all the scientific terms and big dictionary words I never realized that I was learning lol. I was always kid that read but still I look back on those clips and go dang that's where I learned that from? All of the 90s cartoons that parents now say are inappropriate are a hell of a lot better then the crap they let their kids watch now. And you wanna know why they were called inappropriate? Because of muscle structure (like our wonderful gargoyles here) And violence. Mostly Violence. In things like Tom and Jerry and bugs bunny. Why does it even matter!? In the things we watched they expressed pain! That's why the gens that watched these shows don't do anything stupid. That or we had the brains to be able to understand that it is a cartoon! lol. Sorry to rant this mess just drives me nuts lol.
I have to admit that kids shows seem safer and more generic nowadays but there's still creativity and clever writing. I'm told Avatar is supposed to be really good. There's good and bad in each generation's TV. Yeah we had Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, and Batman when we were kids, but we also had to suffer through Bonkers and The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Avatar is one of those few great expectations. But unfortunately it is true most of this gens cartoons and shows suck flat out honest here lol. I like Avatar Air bender but I can't get into Korra...it's like they made her try too hard idk.. Another one of the new good ones is the how to train your dragon show lol. And the new gen of my little pony. There are some good ones but they are just so few and far between now. =/ I mention those 3 because they contain lessons and morals and realistic reactions to the things they have to deal with. Kinda like gargoyles here. Not as deep as gargoyles but still good lol.
I loved gargoyles...they don't make amazingly emotional and life lesson show's like this anymore. Still to this day it is an amazing show to me. Never gets old. My personal favorite is the gun episode where Broadway accidentally sets it off. I loved that lesson in it. I also love how the show would emphasized past lessons and how it would effect their futures. The characters actually grew and matured that's one of the reasons I loved the show so very much.
There were mindless action shows and shows that really hammered in the moral at the end. Gargoyles was one of those that struck the balance between. Lessons were hinted at but never really spelled out. It didn't treat kids like idiots. The continuity was also something a lot of other shows lacked. Maybe other animated shows just go through a ton of writers and directors, but in Gargoyles when they made a plot twist they stuck with it (Broadway and guns, Demona's changing to a human, etc.). There were plot holes but later episodes would always fill those in. And yeah, the characters change a lot during the show, particularly Brooklyn and Broadway who were really just comic relief in the first episode later have their own trials and responsibilities. I also like how no character is completely good or completely evil, but everyone's motives leads them to believe they are doing the right thing even if they are clearly not. Goliath, who is usually the incorruptible hero, has some lapses and even Demona has her good side saving Macbeth.
Okay, I've gone on too much about this show already. Glad you like the picture. XD

Ah ha don't worry we are just all speaking in passion of the show you didn't rant. I'll tell you a secret. When I was a little girl I would take my baby blanket put it on my back like a cape and try to walk like a gargoyle XD. Haha so if you want to rant about one of my favorite childhood shows go for it! lol. I would pretend my blanket was a pair of wings. xD
I for my part find the character of Goliath very fascinating. On one side he represents moral values like courage, wisdom, tolerance and justice. On the other side he also shows that he isn't infallible: He swears revenge and the start of his relationship with Eliza is rather ... clumsy. And that makes him adorable: He combines the intimidating musclebound guy with the awsome charismatic and wise leader and the adorable/cute/awkward lover.
And Claw, the mute tiger/bat mutant is just... CUTE! The first time I saw his expression I was like: OMG! I WANNA HUG HIM! I have a little sister and I think she would love to have him as a teddy bear/protector hybrid.

Why thank you. I'm glad you like it. Goliath is one of my favorite animated characters: big, buff warrior stud who's also real wise with a soft side. I think he can juuuuuuuust barely see over his pecs, but if I ever draw him again, I can make no guarantees I won't bulk them up even bigger.
