Thanks! I used a bunch of different stuff in the BG - alcohol dripped on to the wet paint (circular marks), salt, and a piece of tissue paper (the stiffer wrapping kind, not facial tissue) laid on wet paint to give me the shapes of the larger leafy bits. Then I added shadows and stuff and defined the shapes the various techniques gave me :)
I also used stonehenge paper, it's kind of a pain to work with, and it's not meant for watercolors, but it textures really nicely.
