Well, these guys certainly did a wee bit of growing since the first time the Ducky went to the Basha Kill. Check out how young they were in this photo http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1272383/ !!! Here, they still had their yellow fur and as ya can see now, these gooslings are now replacing that yellow fur with feathers
The Ducky plans on purchasing a kayak and hopefully I will be able to get some up close shots of some of the wildlife that calls the gorgeous and most peacefull Basha Kill home.

They certainly are getting big fast. So are the eagles!
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun in a kayak both in the Bashakill and down in NJ. There are so many places to go when you have a way to get there. For one thing there's the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge. And up my way I can point you in the direction of so many interesting lakes and rivers.

Yuppers that is so very true indeed!!! The Eagles especially are getting so fast.
I don't know about New Jersey, but the Ducky is certainly interested in the New York State area lakes. For now, the Ducky will probably just stick to the Basha Kill, for it looks like a great place for beginners such as meself. The Ducky hasn't been a canoe since I was in high school canoeing in the marsh at White City. The Basha Kill is such a gorgeous place! I can't stay away from it, and even on the week days, I am longing for Saturdays to me next trip up there. The marsh is in me blood now!
Don and I had such a nice long chat with Linda, (she makes the BEST brownies) and she was instructing us on how to buy a kayak, Like it should fit you and that ya should be able to get out of it fast, in case of an emergency, and how much they cost. It does look so totally peaceful out there on the marsh, and it's only natural for a ducky to be out on the water, eh? ^.^
I don't think ya have to register them, and of course, I will purchase a life jacket as required by State law. How long is your kayak? I was hoping one would fit in the 8 foot bed of me pick up truck. I guess 10 ft would fit diagonally--I would finally be able to put the pick up truck to good use besides using it for floor boards, windows, and doors :D And I will have to fully question me coworker Dave who owns a kayak on where he purchased his. He usually kyaks in the State of Vermont :D
Any advice for the Ducky?

Err well. My kayak is a 12 foot Old Town. The longer ones do tend to track better on flat water. I guess that's what you'd be looking for. Smaller kayaks with more rocker turn easy but don't track that well. But not a huge sea kayak or like that. Though lots of people do take those out and have no trouble with them. You do need to turn a lot in the Bashakill, except in the spring before the vegetation starts growing up, so a huge one isn't much help. And with that truck you shouldn't have any trouble with any kayak. If you tie one down right it can stick out of the back of the bed. There's probably no need to register it unless you're going to certain places. Some parks in NY like Herriman and Sterling Forest require registration but nowhere I go does. The places that do are generally very busy places and I tend to avoid those places. You don't have to worry about the life jacket thing much either. The only local place I know where you'll get ticketed for not carrying one in a kayak is on the Delaware river.
The next time we meet up I'll bring down a guide to the local lakes (A Kayaker's Guide to the Hudson River Valley by Shari Aber). Quiet Water New York is a good guide too but isn't that detailed about local waters. Both books mention the Bashakill briefly. Some of the other places they also mention are great too. But the Bashakill would be a good place to start out. Just get out before the vegetation gets too thick. The further north you get the thicker it can be. It's already starting to grow up in the channel beyond the osprey nest.

Yuppers, the Ducky certainly has a wee bit of homework to do on kayaking, and probably I should visit a Sporting Goods Store or two and try a few out. I know in Vermont, Sporting Goods Stores are practically in every town, but here there is Dicks Sporting Goods, and there is one up in Bordentown.
On Saturday, I did observe many different lengths of kayaks that people had in the marsh, so I guess in the marsh it's whichever one the individual feels comfortable with. So, I guess one that is around 10 foot would be perfect for the Basha Kill, or one that isn't too cramped for me legs and one that can turn easy.
That would be excellent! The Ducky plans on being up there on Saturday, May 31st providing the weather is nice. I guess by the time I get a kayak, the fall season will be a upon us and the vegetation will be dying off. Yuppers, I don't believe I will have a problem putting a kayak in the back of the pick up truck.
Thanks so much for your help!!
