This was the big finale piece for the fall semester of my drawing class this year. We had to pick an insect, bird or plant from a list, do research on it, and then come up with a mask idea. It had to be drafted in perspective and realistically fit a face. It also had to feature 3 different surface textures and it had to be pencil rendered on a 15x20 piece board.
By this point in the semester, my love for dragons had become my "thing" and all my friends expected me to pick the DRAGONfly. Not being one to disappoint a group of people who think it's just fine that I love dragons, I obliged. I was going to pick it anyways, truth be told.
I see this mask being worn by a crazy shaman-hermit living in a dangerous swampland. The original design had wings draped over the eyes, but they had to be cut to make the deadline.
There's a sad/happy story attached to this piece, but since this is the only piece from the class I'm posting on FA, it would lack too much context to tell the story here. Head over to the DA version of this piece if you're interested. Or ask me.
