Officially, summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) begins on June 21st. Unofficially, summer (to most Americans) usually starts during the Memorial Day weekend in late May. So, naturally, it's also the start of 'swimming season' for most youngsters, including my characters 'Cora' and 'Jonathan Lupus'.
This particular comic gag is loosely based on one of the rules applying to the swimming pool behind the clubhouse of the Oriole Gardens complex in Margate (where I live)...

In actuality, you DO have to wash the crud off of you before entering the pool. However, all swimmers in municipal pools (and alike) usually have to get wet THREE times: the first time to remove the crud, the second time to be in the pool, and the third time (in the form of a shower or bath) to rinse off all that chlorine.
I recently wondered to myself how 'Cora' would feel about this development, especially since she's feline - a species that's skittish about water, altogether!
