Remember this funky WIP? http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12878873/
Well... Here's what it is!
Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmTu.....q3dSJpmZjE1fuQ
An artistic liberty commission. The customer wanted something that was a mix between the dragon dancers (or rather lion dancers but us Westerners have commonly misinterpreted them as dragons) seen in Asian parades and the dragons seen in traditional Chinese artwork, he wanted something that was friendly but not overly cute, so I went for a fairly plush cartoon look but kept things not overly cute with the teeth and overall expression.
This suit has vision out the mouth so we could make the dragon very tall, the jaw is set on a hinge with a spring so it bobbles open and shut as he moves. He has wiggle ears, whiskers on heavy gauge wire, an attached tail with internal belt loops, extra large "stompy feet", and features a wide variety of fur including a type called "bubble fur" for the scales (I have been itching to use this fur as scales for years now, I finally got the chance!).
Features small and medium raptor claws from DVC

lion dancers have also got massive heads, and the customer likes the big heads, and so I did "think big" while building it intending for it to be a bit over-sized http://www.emplion.com/yahoo_site_a.....0806_large.jpg but trust me, in these pics it is a tad too over-sized for my taste but the size of it will be a bit more in proportion once it is on the customer :)
Maybe the head doesn't look so big now.. I'm wearing it here.. I'm a pretty stocky guy, and the model beastcub used was very thin.

Ahh! This is so fantastic! Watching the video brought back so many memories of going to Lunar New Year festivals with my mom. I remember being a little kid and excitedly running up to the lions to 'feed' them lucky envelopes to get a bow from them. The wiggly ears are perfect, and the jaw is very reminiscent to the lion dancer suits too. I almost expected the fluttering eyelids any minute!
I'm up for more bubble fur projects, here are the readily available colors

I am actually kinda itching to do something overly kawaii big eyed cute with that purple n pink stuff (not a fan of the purple and white btw, the pattern is really blech)
With digging I can maybe find more colors... maybe... for example the maroon bubble fur I found was a rarity I bought the last 2 yards of some eons ago off some obscure site.

Ohh like what sort of thing/creature did you have in mind? I've been wanting something cute and easy to wear for awhile. All my current suits are real/mean looking as well as hot and taxing to wear for long periods xD Gah now I need to decide between this or a chicken head from you!
Yeah that purple and white looks really gross, I like the orange and red as well as the black too :)

the bubble fur really only works for dragons and kirins, either a Chinese dragon like this but done all girly, or maybe a cutesy kirin done akin to the shape of the steenbok head (which is despite the cute shape and huge eyes it is actually done realistically to how the animals actually look, but those things are like living chibi's I swear)
... but I also want to make a chicken, namely a silky.

I ALWAYS forget it exists and last year I remembered in time to go and then it got rained out last year >_<
The Old Fair Oaks area is full of chickens that roam freely through the streets and parks, they hang in front yards and in front of business and, well, everywhere... it is hilarious to watch them run up to picnic benches to beg for food when folks sit down, and I once was tempted to take home a Rhode Island Red when she jumped in my car .___. we were feeding some with the door open and she just got right in like it was nothing.

He is just so gorgeous! The motion of the jaw and ears and whiskers combined with the look and the acting of the model are just fabulous! I love his cute-but-tough look! Hope I get to meet him in person one day!
And this makes me really excited to see what happens with the maroon bubbles :3

No, there is both lion dancers and dragon dance. Lion dance is two people with instrumental team and sometimes with different buddhas or other significant figures accompanying the dance, and dragon dance is multiple people controlling the dragon, one holding the pearl to lead him, and the instrumental team. The mirror on top of their head is partly from the original legend of Nian, which was holding the mirror up to the beast to make him so scared of his appearance he'd run off, that developed into the idea that bad spirits would see how ugly they were and run off when they seen lion dancers.
Just...clarifying lmao.
