Being the cute, fluffy, adorable critters they are, its easy to forget that flammies are supposed to be guardians for a powerful energy source, and if all else fails, a living doomsday device. Here, I am entertaining the "high adventure fantasy" element of old RPGs, and making flammie a little more suitable as a "fantasy hero". I also entertain the thought of merging with a flammie, which creates the humanoid form present, and then perhaps being prompted by the creature's spirit to take up arms against tyrants and other evil men... though I'll be more than happy to just be a cute, fluffy were-dragon when things are peaceful.
Yeah, the giant sword there harkens to FF7, but there are alot of high fantasy RPGs that made use of elaborate swords. Actually, I just finished Dark Souls 2, using a great sword as my primary weapon, so there is another reason why I armed the creature as I did.
Also, Given the construction of an anthropomorphic flammie, I would think that high evasion combined with a hard hitting, long range weapon would be the most practical. On that note, I should probably have given him a crossbow for when he is flying... we will say its nearby. Long range melee weapons, such as a heavy lance, great sword, or halberd make sense, to let the creature make use of its greater than human, draconic strength, and to keep opponents at bay, so the somewhat vulnerable wings and tail aren't at risk (though if caught off guard, wing and tail strikes are just as effective... I actually considered the concept of alchemically or magically hardening the feathers/fur on the tips of his wings and tail for even greater advantage.)
Though I played with armor in various areas, the flexile, multi-limbed creature couldn't handle many armor bits without becoming awkward looking (and likely unable to fly if too much weight is added. I added armor plates to the hands and feet so that attacks and parries with talons were possible, and covered his most vulnerable spot, his throat (the hard belly scales actually end right at the collar bone) with a deflective plate to knock aside piercing blows.
That said, statistic wise, the creature probably has the strongest defense vs. slashing attacks (fur, scales, and armor all protect against this) with above average defense vs. blunt attacks (good defense from armor plates and scales, but thick fur adds only a little padding against crushing). By far its weakest defense is against piercing weapons: Its belly scales and plates deflect piercing fairly well, but they cover only vital areas: most of the body is covered with thick fur, against which piercing is useless. You could argue that it has a thick, draconian hide, but honestly, lets not min-max here.
I imagine the creature uses a mix of sword attacks, tail sweeps, and taloned kicks, with clawing from the handpaws added if the sword is lost (or too heavy for certain maneuvers. Wing strikes and bites are only reserved to catch a foe off guard, or in desperation. If you really want to go into a full arsenal, the creature would likely use a crossbow or javelins while flying, closing to melee only when its tactically preferrable. Also, while I don't know a flammie's full magical capabilities, I do know they have a dragon-style breath attack... a "mana beam" which basically looks like a pretty, multicolored energy beam, similar in size and length to the old "Kamehameha" trick in dragonball (or Energy Wave for you DBZers). It appears to have both magical properties(been used to break an energy shield) and kinetic impact (the creature actually uses it to send one of its foes literally flying through the air, riding on the front of the blast). I imagine, like any properly balanced dragon, however, that the flammie can only use it now and then. (probably a large drain on stamina, or might actually cost some form of "magic points".)
... you know, with a little tweaking (color, background, text and/or icon in upper right corner) this would be a good desktop image. I guess I am going to be working on this some more!
That's all I can think of to say for now with this image. As always, let me know what you like about my work, and let me know if you think of any way it can be improved, and I'll see what I can do:)

heh, thanks.
I know you can prefer some perversion with your dragons, so I'll point out one small detail that I added to the creature here: look at the belly scutes on the lower torso... see how there is a change in the overlapping pattern, revealing what appears to be a belly button, or some other fleshy bit? *nods* yeah, that's the exit point for the 'sheath', and not his sword sheath of course. I chose to keep this image in the "general" section, rather than mature or adult, however, because it is literally just the covering opening; I've seen many nude furs with "sheathed" naughty bits that pass through general art, so that was my mind set.
*cringes* of course thinking about it, a piercing blow to that region would be very painful... not necessarily lethal, and it is a very small target, rimmed with deflective scales, but still. I chose to have some form over function with this creature: a belt covering that opening wouldn't be a bad element to have... but yeah, I wanted as much anatomy as possible while still giving him an armored, "furgonomic" (AKA practically clothed/equipped) appearence.

Annoyingly, This is actually larger than FA is posting it as... like, large enough to make a good desktop image on a high resolution monitor. So... I'm going to talk to my friend here in a bit and see if I can't get the full sized image up here, or somewhere nearby... in the mean time, Note me with an email address, if you want me to send the full resolution image to you... Its not the most elegant solution, but it is a temporary one.
Ya know, it's strange... when I load it on certain computers it seems to be too large, and on others it seems to be too small. *checks his monitor parameters... then sighs* okay, I'm an idiot. looks like it looks just fine; this monitor had an extremely high resolution, so the image naturally appeared smaller (and smoother... hmm.). well, it does look like this is indeed it's natural size. If you like it this way, I'm happy to keep it this way. If you prefer a larger, smaller, and/or smoother resolution (aka more line maintenance, like smoothing and adjusting lines in the linework), just say so, and I'll happily tweak it. I am always looking to improve my work, when I know of things that need improving.
