Another month, another one of
nemo's Thrilling Art Swap Events. This month's entry is for
Crossdog367 for his programmer bunny, Susany "Dandy" Dangerfield. This months theme is "The Gritty Reboot", so Dandy here's gone through a few... changes.
Susany “Dandy” Dangerfield was a young lapine woman from humble beginnings among one of the galaxies many space stations. The middle child of nine, she was already brought into the world as another face in the crowd, destined for a life of boring mediocrity. The only noteworthy thing about her in her early childhood was her fascination, and some would even say kinship, with technology... coupled with the uncanny way technology tended to act up around her. It always seemed like machines tended to break down, or computers would crash if she spent too long around them. No one thought much of it beyond bad luck or her own irresponsibility. However, her otherwise dull life would be shaken up one fateful evening when she turned eight, and her sector of the station was nearly destroyed by a series of explosions and fires in the sectors life support systems. Susany was severely injured in the event, barely surviving with permanent scars. The failure of the life support systems was blamed on terrorist sabotage, but the true culprits were never found, even after years of ruthless searching.
When Dandy came of age, she enlisted in the Galactic Military, both out of a desire to put her interest in machinery to use as a combat pilot, and as a way to somehow get back at the kinds of people behind the attack on her home all those years ago. Things turned sour for her, however, during her first test flight. She'd barely gotten off the ground when her mind abruptly began to feel a strange... pull into the ships computer. Suddenly, she found herself spiraling through a strange digital world in a body that wasn't quite hers. She barely had time to make sense of this bizarre place she'd found herself in before she was suddenly yanked back out as her ship, comatose pilot included, slammed right into the ground. Thanks to Dandys sudden unconsciousness costing the military millions in damages, her chances of becoming a pilot went up in smoke.
She was never able to convince anyone of the out-of-body experience she'd had during that flight, but after years of experimentation, she began to slowly learn how to do it again, mentally projecting herself into any machine or computer. As she traveled across this digital landscape, she discovered that she could effect any computer or machine from the inside, or even protect it by fighting off any sort of virus or hacker.
Today, she works as an ordinary assistant programmer on The Genesis, a space station rest stop for ships traveling across the galaxy. With the number of people always coming through, Dandy always has new information on any strange happenings going on. Using her powers to travel across the galaxies many networks, she has prevented many a disaster with a timely repair of a passing ships navigation system, or preventing a hacker from causing a major military security leak.
Little does she realize that she's not the only technomancer in the universe, and she'll soon discover a dark secret that will start her down a path to uncover the truth behind that terrorist attack all those years ago...
Hope you like, Crossdog!
