I imagine so. Grunkle Vernon's probably sniffing his shirt to see if it's salvageable, but judging by the stink cloud coming from the shirt, I bet he took the majority of the spray in the chest. Also, his nose would be filled with the stink by then, so a sniff test wouldn't help. Still, I like the concept.
